Really . . . how important are accessories? You might say that accessories, such as nice travel humidors for example, are of secondary importance in comparison to the consumable products, such as cigars, that you sell. Others will argue that accessories are the key to selling more. You decide . . . but only after you consider that without all those cool lighters, classy cases, fancy cutters and storage humidors . . . well, interest and consumption would decrease, along with the number of new smokers. No doubt, overall business would decrease significantly without all the great accessories that buoy interest, infuse fun, and grow the market.
Agree or not, accessories are part of the equation that turns this industry. So the fact is you need to select and offer a group of accessories that both sustain consumables and also keep your sales and marketing image "alive" with new items of interest. The last thing you want is people to think there¹s no reason to go to your store to find a nice gift. You need sales of sundry items to save your butt in some months, and add the extra profit you expect in the holidays.
Your ability to develop new customers, plus more business from existing clients, is a function of your creativity and motivation along with the products you have available for sale. It¹s critical to never forget that in slow times, there¹s plenty you should be doing to insure sales in the future. You can¹t simply wait for all your business to walk in the front door. For example, contact bars to see if you can supply air purifiers to eliminate lingering smoke odors. You¹ll find they¹ll need more of your cigars when they have more smoking events and fewer worries about customer complaints.
Also, ask everyone you know about their need for customized product for events and promotions. You¹ll be amazed at your ability to SELL MORE Accessories!
